Excellent ice penetration, used it to go up mt washington in the winter and practice some self arrest, and snow/ice belay anchoring. Super light too, also used it for some light ice and rock climbing -- in small 20-30 foot sections at about 80 degree grade. This is a good standard iceaxe .I opted for the long model (75cm), mostly because I like to get a lot of leverage when self arresting. It works well, and will probably last forever.Used on my climb of Mt Rainer. Did its job flawlessly. Light and sturdy.Good axe for price. Lightweight and strong enough. If you are a serious winter adventurer, you may want a better quality axe, but for weekend warriors its fine.I used this on The Pacific Crest Trail in the Sierra's this year. It was very light weight and functionable.Lite and durable. Priced fair and you look cool standing on a mountain top wielding it over your head.My use is for hiking the Scottish mountains in the winter by the easiest routes (which can still be fatal) rather than "technical" climbing. Thus I want something reliable to lean-on during ascent walks and of course something to "arrest" a slide. I'm not planning on swinging it much (perhaps a few "last little bits") hence I chose the straight-shaft Glacier model rather than the slightly curved Super lightweight and sturdy. Top quality axe, buy with confidenceGood build and decent price in saleExactly as advertisedWas perfect, súper light, i love this axe, came with a leash. The seller was very great and fine.
